On December 1, 2006 the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure were
amended to required that organizations be prepared for electronic
discovery. They must know where their data is, have retrieval
methods in place and be prepared to meet requests for data. These
rules apply to any organization with the potential for involvement
in litigation in federal court. School districts and businesses must
take the time to address these new rules or be subject to penalties
or the potential loss of a lawsuit.
